THE
COLLECTS
also called the Orations or Orisons
The
Priest sings always an odd number of Collects, and on most Sundays and
Feasts, there are three: the Collect of the day, any concurring Saint's
Feast, and a third Collect, generally that of All Saints. The tone is a
simple one. The following are the Collects for Sept. 14.
Collect
for the Feast
Deus qui Unigeniti: O God, Whose good
pleasure it was to redeem the human race with the precious Blood of Thine
only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ: mercifully grant that
those who draw near to bow down before the life-creating Cross may be set
free from the shackles of their sins. +
Through our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee
in the communion of the Holy Spirit, God through all the ages of
ages. Choir:
Amen.
Commemoration of
the Martyrs:
Let us pray.
Collect
Infirmitatem
nostram: Look mercifully
upon our weakness, we beseech Thee, O Lord, and by the intercession of
Cornelius and Cyprian, Thy Saints, turn away all the evils which we justly
deserve.
Commemoration of
All Saints:
Collect
Concede
quaesumus: Grant,
we beseech Thee, almighty God, that the intercession of the holy Theotokos
and Virgin Mary, and of all the heavenly Powers, and of the blessed
Patriarchs, Prophets, Apostles, Evangelists, Martyrs, Confessors, and
Virgins, of Sts. N. & N., and of all Thine elect, may everywhere fill
us with joy, that as we call their righteousness to mind we may experience
their watchful prayer. + Through the
same our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in
the communion of the Holy Spirit, God through all the ages of ages. Choir:
Amen.
