THE
APOSTLE
more commonly called the Epistle
Having
set out from the chancel with the Book of Epistles just before the last
Collect, preceded by a candle-bearer, the Subdeacon in amice, alb,
maniple, and tunicle, proceeds to the stand on the iconostasis or in the
choir enclosure. Having made his reverences, the Collect having
concluded, he sings in a simple but beautiful tone the reading from the
Holy Apostle. The following is read on Sept. 14.
A
Reading from the Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Galatians.
Brethren, I have confidence in you in the Lord, that ye will not be of
another mind. But he that troubleth you shall bear the judgment,
whosoever he be. And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I
yet suffer persecution? Then is the scandal of the Cross made void. I
would they were even cut off, who trouble you. For as many as desire to
please in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised, only that
they may not suffer the persecution of the Cross of Christ. For neither
they themselves who are circumcised keep the law, but they will have you
to be circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. But God forbid
that I should glory, save in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by Whom
the world is crucified to me : and I to the world. Gal
