THE BISHOP'S BLESSING

The Deacon having addressed the Hierarch and the people, the Bishop, facing south towards the Benedictional book, but with his right hand upraised in blessing over the people, chants the petitions. On Sept. 14 they are as follows.

Bishop’s Blessing    Deus qui per

May God, Whose will it was to save the world by His Cross, whose exaltation He hath caused you to celebrate today, be pleased to protect you for ever by the defence of that same Cross.  Choir:  Amen.  Bishop:

May the aid of the Holy Cross be ever present with you, and may its mysteries be ever present for you, and may this its solemn feast be your well-being in both lives. Choir:  Amen.

May your life be magnified with heavenly gifts, and may your souls there be granted a place, where He reigneth, Who by the Cross redeemed you--the Son of God. Choir:  Amen.

Which may He deign to grant, Whose kingdom and dominion abideth without end, unto the ages of ages.  Choir:  Amen.

Here the Hierarch turns westwards to the people and blesses them solemnly, chanting:

May the blessing of God almighty, of the + Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy + Spirit, come down upon you, and remain for ever.  Choir:  Amen.
