Icon of St. Celsus,
Child-Martyr of Milan
Feast: October 14
St. Celsus was the young
disciple of St. Nazarius of Milan, who was condemned to death for
preaching Christianity in the 1st century, during the persecution of
emperor Nero. St. Ambrose of Milan discovered their relics soon after
395, and enshrined them appropriately.
Icon is of unknown provenance,
with Greek inscriptions. St. Celsus is the small figure in the front,
holding in one hand, as high as his head, a white cross, and in the
other hand a small scroll.
