Icon of St. Dagobert, king, martyr

Back to WESTERN SAINTS ICONS

Icon of St. Dagobert, king & martyr (+679)

Feast: Dec. 23

St. Dagobert took the throne of France as a child but was forced into exile. Bishop Dido of Poitiers, France, took him to Ireland when Childebert was named king. Dagobert regained his throne in 675 , but this pious and holy soul was murdered only four years later, on Dec. 23, by Ebroin, mayor of the palace. St. Dagobert was a friend of St. Wilfrid of York. Holy Martyr Dagobert, pray to God for us!

Icon is from a workshop of the ECOF (Orthodox Church of France) Click the image to see the original composite icon from which the graphic is taken, of Saints of the Royal House of France.
