Icon of St. Dominic, Abbot of
Sora in Italy
Feast: Jan. 22
St. Dominic, having received
the monastic tonsure, went about founding monasteries in various parts
of Italy. Between making foundations, he devoted himself almost
exclusively to solitary prayer. He was part of the movement of renewal
of monasticism in Europe at this time, and especially in Italy, by
means of eremetical practice. A worker of numerous miracles, the Saint
reposed at the age of 80 at Sora in Campania (southern Italy). Holy
Father Dominic, pray to God for us!
Icon: an enamel medallion of
the Saint in the Museo del Duomo, Veroli. Thanks to Brianna Martin for
providing this image.
