Icon of St. Dymphna,
Virgin-Martyr of Gheel
Feast Days: May 15 and Oct. 27
With her father confessor,
Gerebern, Dymphna fled Ireland to live in hiding as a recluse near
Gheel. Her father discovered her flight, found her, then put St.
Dymphna and St. Gerebern to death. After her reposed, she worked great
miracles and especially the miracle of delivering many from insanity.
St. Dymphna is the patroness of the mentally ill.
Icon by the hand of Mother
Justina, St. Elizabeth Convent, Etna, California, with permission.
Many thanks to Brian David
Jackson of the Antiochian Archdiocese, who commissioned the icon and
submitted this beautiful 2nd image for the Western Saints Icon Gallery.
Many Years!
