Icon of St. Elias Fondaminsky
of Paris, + 1945
Feast: July 20
Icon is
of four recently-glorified Saints. Mother Maria (as she is still known
by many) appears the second from the left. St. Elias is the first Saint
on the left.
St.
Elias was the associate of Mother Maria Skobtsova of Paris, a nun who
engaged in much charitable work and was known to smuggle Jews to safety
under the Nazi occupation of Paris. St. Maria, Fr. Demetrius, and other
helpers were arrested by the Nazis and put to death. They were glorifed
by the Oecumenical Patriarchate in 2004. Holy Martyr Elias, pray to God
for us!
Icon by the hand of Maria
Struve, who knew all four Saints.
