Icon of St. Gerald of Mayo,
Bishop
Feast:
Mar. 13
After
the Synod of Whitby, St. Gerald relocated to Ireland, where he and
other English monks founded the monastery of Mayo ("Yew Plain"). There
he was abbot, but ceded the place to St. Adamnan. After St. Adamnan
brought in the Orthodox calculation of Pascha, he founded another
community and St. Gerald resumed the abbacy. His community and work are
highly praised in the writings of St. Bede the Venerable.
Icon by the hand of Mother
Justina, Greek Old Calendarist convent of St. Elizabeth, Etna,
California, with permission.
