Icons of St. Germanus
(Germaine, Herman) of Auxerre, Bishop
Feast: July 31
St. Germanus or Germaine was
born at Auxerre and became Bishop of that place after having worked in
the government of Rome. He made two journeys to Britain to combat the
heresy of Pelagianism, defended St. Genevieve from mobs that would have
lynched her, and reposed at Ravenna, then seat of the imperial court,
interceding for the people. Holy Germanus, pray to God for us!
