Icons of St. Germanus
(Germaine, Herman), Bishop of Paris
Feast: May 28
St. Germanus or Germaine
escaped death twice; first, as a babe, when his mother attempted to
abort him; second, when his aunt poisoned his drink. He was ordained
Priest, then made Abbot of St. Symphorian's at Autun (Rule of St.
Basil). In about 555 he was appointed Bishop of Paris by King
Childebert, where he led an ascetic life and worked miracles of
healing. He founded the Abbey of Paris, called Saint-Germaine-des-Prés.
He advised the queen St. Radegund of Poitiers, who withdrew from the
world, and reposed in sanctity in 576. Holy Germanus, pray to God for
us!
