Icons of St. Gudula of
Nivelles, Nun
Feast: Jan. 8
St. Gudula was the cousin of
St. Gertrude of Nivelles, who was the first Abbess there. She was the
daughter of Count Witger and St. Amalberga, and she was educated at
Nivelles under St. Gertrude. After the latter's death, however, Gudula
returned in 664 to the family castle near Morzelles. There she led a
life of great holiness and aid to the poor. St. Gudula is the patron
saint of Brussels in Belgium. Holy Mother Gudula, pray to God for us!
Top Icon: by the hand of
Protodeacon Pol, Moscow Patriarchal monastery in Diksmuide, Belgium.
This icon is on the cover of the book "Vergeten Helden," the January
