Icon of St. Winnoc (Gwynog) of
Scotland, bishop
Feast: Apr. 13
St. Winnoc, bishop in
Scotland, is commemorated in the Aberdeen Breviary (a variant of the
Sarum Breviary) and is especially venerated in Buchan. Some scholars
believe that St. Gwynog was a counsellor to King Kenneth. It is said
that the prayers of the holy hierarch Gwynog helped the king to
vanquish the Picts in seven battles on a single day. (information from
Old English and Celtic Saints, Fr. Hieromonk Ambrose (Moone), New
Zealand).
Icon: by the hand of Aidan
Hart, Oecumenical Patriarchate, UK.
