Icon Mosaic of St. Heliodorus,
Bishop of Altino
Feast: July 3
St.
Heliodorus was a fellow traveller of St. Jerome and his fast friend,
and also an ascetic of renown, who defeated the Arian heretics at the
Council of Aquileia in 381. He was made Bishop of Altino and reposed in
sanctity in the year 390. Holy Father Heliodorus, pray to God for us!
Icon is a mosaic from the
12th c. church at Torcello in Sicily, and bears the Latin inscription
SCS ELIO DORVS (Sanctus Eliodorus, St. Heliodorus).
