Icon Fresco of Holy Royal
Martyr Hermenegild of Spain
Feast: Apr. 13
St. Hermenegild was a son of
Leovigild, king of the Visigoths and protector of the Arian heresy, who
had his son imprisoned and then, when he refused to receive the
sacrilegious communion from an Arian bishop on Pascha, put his son to
death. St. Hermenegild, mentioned in the Royal Acclamations of the
Sarum Rite for Pascha, Pentecost, and Nativity, is the patron Saint of
Sevilla. He reposed in the year 586.
