Icon of St. Honoratus, Abbot
of Lèrins
Feast: Jan. 16
St. Honoratus was born of a
distinguished pagan Gallo-Roman family. After he was converted to
Christianity in his youth, he converted his brother Venantius. The two
of them, together with St. Caprasius, set out for Greece to live there
in ascesis. However, when Honoratus took ill on the way, he returned to
Gaul, lived as a hermit near Fréjus, and then on one of the Lérins
islands. He attracted many dsciples, and thus in about 400 A.D. he
founded the great island lavra of Lérins. He was named Archbishop of
Arles against his wishes and in 426 he reposed in Arles, full of
sanctity and miracles. Holy Father Honoratus, pray to God for us!
Icon is of unknown provenance.
