Icon of St. Irmina, the nun
and foundress, co-labourer of St. Willibrord.
Feast: Dec. 24
St. Irmina was the daughter of
St. Dagobert II of the Franks and was betrothed to Count Herman. After
a jealous suitor killed Herman outside Trier (Treves), she became a nun
at a monastery near Trier, which her father had endowed. In 698 she
gave St. Willibrord the building and grounds upon which was founded the
famous Abbey of Echternach. She reposed in the Lord at Weissenburg
Monastery in Alsace, which St. Dagobert had founded.
Icon: of unknown provenance.
