Icons of St. Joseph of
Arimathea, called also St. Joseph of Glastonbury, the Uncle of Our
Saviour Jesus Christ (1st c.)
Feast: Sun. after Nativity of
Christ, July 31 (in Western rite, Mar. 27)
According to a set of
traditions, St. Joseph brought the Christian Faith to England after the
Ascension of Christ. In the background is the Tor or great hill at
Glastonbury, where the tower of St. Michael now stands. In St. Joseph's
hands is the Holy Grail, which by tradition he brought with him from
Jerusalem. It was in St. Joseph's tomb that Our Lord was buried.
