Icons of St. Leonard, Abbot of
Noblac in Limoges

St. Leonard was first a
hermit, later Abbot of the monastery of Noblac (mid-6th c.). He is
known for having obtained from King Clovis the right to set free any
prisoner whom he decided ought to be released from prison. Because of
his energetic usage of this privilege, he became the patron Saint of
those imprisoned unjustly. To the left in the icon above is St. Odo,
the Abbot of Cluny (10th c.)
