Icon of St. Plectrudis, queen

Back to WESTERN SAINTS ICONS

Bas-relief Icon of St. Plectrudis, Queen, Foundress of St. Mary's-in-Capitol, Cologne, Germany

Feast: Oct. 31

St. Plectrudis was a Frankish princess, born about the year 660, who married King Pippin. She left the court, however, and became the foundress of the renowned convent of St.-Maria im Kapitol in Cologne, Germany, working there at the same time St. Willibrord was evangelising. This image appears at her shrine in Cologne.

Icon: 11th century, the shrine of the Saint at her threshold in Cologne.
