Icon of St. Rufillus, first
bishop and patron saint of Forlimpopoli, Emilia, Italy (+ 382)
Feast: July 18
Pope St. Sylvester is said to
have appointed St. Rufillus as bishop of Forlimpopoli (Forum Popilii).
St. Rufillus transformed a temple of the demon-goddess Isis into a
church of the most high God. An ancient temple of the demon-god
Hercules was converted into a church and St. Rufillus' relics rest
there. After 1360, the city having been razed, the see was relocated to
Bertinoro, where St. Rufillus is patron also.
Icon by an atelier in Italy.
