In the
centre, to the left and right of the altar, stand St. Joseph of
Arimathea and St. Andrew the Apostle. To St. Joseph's left are Sts.
Paulinus of York, Palladius of Ireland, Ternan, and Ninian (who holds a
scroll reading "Their sound hath gone forth into all the earth"). Above
them are Sts. Moluac, Machar, Kentigern Mungo, and the 52 monk-martyrs
of Eloc with St. Donnan.
To St.
Andrew's right are Sts. Fintan of Lindisfarne, Aidan of Lindisfarne,
Colman of Lindisfarne, and Cuthbert of Lindisfarne (holding the
crozier, in episcopal vestments of the 13th century). Above them are
Sts. Cedd of London, Chad of Lichfield, Eata of Hexham
(Hagustaldensis), Wilfrid of York, king Ceolwulf who became a monk at
Lindisfarne, Edfrith, Felgila, Ethelwold, Edbert, and the Saints of
Holy Island. At the front and centre of the icon are the three kings
and passion-bearers of Deira Sts. Edwin, Oswin, and Oswald. To their
left is St. Bede of Jarrow; to his left is St. Columba. Behind St.
Columba are Sts. Adamnan, Cummin Aeilbe, Baithen of Iona, Sagine,
Odran, Brescal, Ethne, and Patrick (above St. Patrick is St. Kenneth).
To the right of the three passion-bearers is the monastic St.
Maelrhuba, and Sts. Colman, Fergus, Drostan, Findlugan, Medan, and St.
Donald with his nine daughters. To the right and above St. Colman is
St. Cormac of Durrow. The women right of St. Cormac are Sts. Hilda of
Whitby, Ebba of Coldingham, Hieu, Bega, and Audrey (Etheldreda). The
inscription at the bottom reads, "All Saints of Scotland, pray to God
for us."
